Advanced Orthopaedic Specialists

Sports medicine

One of our stand-out specialties is our extensive experience with sports care. We have a team of sports medicine physicians who specialize in the treatment, management and prevention of illness and injury - and help minimize time away from sports, work or school.

Whether you're a competitive student-athlete, weekend warrior, or someone who wants to become active or begin an exercise program, the same expertise can be applied. So, give us a call if you're experiencing any pain or just need a good physical.

Should you see a sports medicine physician or orthopaedic surgeon?

While both are trained in musculoskeletal medicine, a sports medicine doctor specializes in non-operative musculoskeletal conditions, which actually account for 90% of all sports injuries. Depending on your condition, meeting with one of our sports medicine specialists could be the best place to start. They can maximize non-operative treatment, recommend physical therapies, and if necessary expedite referrals to one of our surgeons.

Common Musculoskeletal Conditions:

  • Acute injuries: ankle sprains, muscle strains, knee and shoulder injuries, and fractures
  • Overuse injuries: rotator cuff and other forms of tendinopathies, stress fractures
  • Medical and injection therapies for osteoarthritis

Common Non-musculoskeletal Conditions of Sports Medicine:

  • Concussions and other head injuries
  • Chronic or acute illness: infectious mononucleosis or asthma
  • Nutrition, supplements, ergogenic aids, and performance issues
  • "Return to play" decisions on sick or injured athletes
  • Safe strength training and conditioning exercises
